On Nov. 5 at approximately 2:45 p.m., a woman returned to her home in Washington Township to find two men inside who had entered unlawfully.

According to Capt. Tony Wickersham of the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office, the men fled the home on foot and entered a waiting vehicle.

“She watched them get into a vehicle with two other individuals,” said Wickersham, adding that the homeowner followed them out of the house and contacted authorities.

A traffic stop was made and the men were placed under arrest.

“During the investigation, it was found that a fifth individual was involved who lived in the area,” said Wickersham. “The one individual who lived in the area thought there would be money or items of value (in the home) and kind of pointed it out. He did not go with them.”

The five suspects range in age from 17 to 19 years old and live in several local communities, including Shelby Township, Pontiac, Rochester Hills and Washington Township.

The two men who entered the home and the two men in the vehicle are being charged with one count of home invasion-second degree each, and one is also being charged with one count of conspiracy to commit home invasion-second degree.

The fifth individual is being charged with conspiracy to commit home invasion.

The homeowner is also claiming that the individuals who entered her home also poisoned her dog, though the animal didn’t die.

Test results are pending.

Currently the five individuals are awaiting a preliminary hearing at the 42-1 District Court in Romeo.
